From WWE Star to Running for Office - Glenn Jacobs

Our guest this week is an aficionado of Austrian Economics, classically liberal in political taste and spent years in the WWE wrestling with the likes of Steve Austin, John Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson….and now he’s running for Mayor of Knox County, TN…This was a really fun interview to do and I think y’all are gonna love it!

Before we get to the interview I want to say thank you to y’all that have reached out in the last couple weeks with feedback on the podcast! I love hearing from y’all and it’s been incredibly encouraging to hear about the ways the show is having an impact.

I want to give a special shout-out to Tyler from Arkansas who just recently won his election to be a Justice of the Peace. Tyler has been listening to the podcast since about the time we put out our 8th Episode. The other day he messaged me and said, “Raz, I’ve listened to your podcast for a while now. It convinced me that I could run for office, so I did. Because of the tips you provided in your podcast, I was able to beat a 16-year incumbent. Thank you!” I just had to know more about what happened to Tyler and I got on the phone and had a great time talking about the campaign. The craziest thing about the race is that it came down to winning by 14 votes. That’s tight! I couldn’t be prouder of what Tyler did and I hope y’all will give me a shout to share your stories as well!

Ok, let’s introduce our guest.

Glenn Jacobs is a Republican Candidate for Mayor of Knox County, TN. A career with WWE spanning nearly 25 years has afforded Jacobs the opportunity to perform in front of millions of fans across the United States and in over 40 countries around the world but he has chosen East Tennessee as his home for over 20 years. Jacobs is the owner of Jacobs Insurance Associates and the local champion of the Kindness Revolution, a national anti-bullying initiative. Along with his wife Crystal, he founded Kane’s Crusaders, a non-profit organization with the mission of bringing joy to chronically ill teenagers in East Tennessee.

I first noticed Glenn when he did an interview talking with Matt Kibbe about socialism and why free market economics provided such a power suite of tools to elevate people from poverty. I was just wondering how a huge wrestler learned what Austrian Economics is!

I quickly descended into a youtube warp and watched a bunch of his videos, learning he was running for office, but it was through a chance encounter that I met a mutual acquaintance and we set up the podcast.
